Reno Conference Videos

IN OCTOBER of 2005, approximately 100 noted judges, journalists, lawyers and court information officers from across the country gathered for a two-day conference conducted by the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Courts and Media (RNCCM) at The National Judicial College (NJC) on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). The objective was to foster discussion between two institutions, the courts and the media, which exist in a symbiotic, yet often contentious, relationship. The mission of this conference was not only to explore the causes of the tensions and conflict between the courts and the media in these cases, but also to seek a greater understanding of each other’s functions and purposes in a democratic society. In the process, the participants sought areas of common ground that would assist the courts and the news media to work more cooperatively in hopes that the public would be the ultimate beneficiary.

image"From O.J. to Martha to Michael" was the third media-oriented national conference held at The National Judicial College in the wake of the 1995 O.J. Simpson criminal trial verdict. The mission of this conference was not only to explore the causes of the tension and conflict between the courts and the media in these cases, but also to help both have a greater understanding of and appreciation for each other. This DVD contains 26 segments from the conference.
